Description: CloseUp – Kammermusical Münster The chamber musical ensemble CloseUp was founded in 2023 by Kathi Laukemper. The goal is to bring culture to places with low cultural density, creating mobile, spatially flexible productions that introduce musical theatre literature at diverse venues. And of course also where there is already a lot of culture but even more interest. Chamber musicals are ideal for this! With their minimalist approach and a small ensemble size, they are flexibly adaptable to stages of any size and technical equipment. They work on an emotional and musical level through an introspective, intimate narrative of relatable stories and characters – especially in close physical proximity. The semi-professional performers and musicians vary depending on the project and casting requirements. “Daddy Long Legs” is the third production of CloseUp – Kammermusical Münster.
Description: The Debattierclub Münster is an open and politically neutral platform for the exchange of ideas and information, welcoming students of all disciplines. Within a set debate format, members argue in teams about the pros and cons of a wide variety of contentious issues from politics, society, philosophy or pop culture. Whether they argue on the side of the government or the opposition is decided by lot. Rhetoric and confident presentation are trained alongside spontaneity, quick-wittedness, active listening, linguistic sensitivity, logical thinking and the ability to put oneself in unfamiliar positions. The debate gives speakers the space to try things out, or to compete with other debating clubs from all over Germany and beyond. In the end, the best argument wins!
Description: In 1975, an Englishman named Paul Willin came up with the idea of founding the English Drama Group Münster. The act succeeded, and since then the EDG (pronounced: Ihh-Dieh-Dschie) has been “very much alive and kicking,” as we would say. For more than 30 years, the “Dramies” (as they sometimes call themselves when speaking German) have brought one to two productions per year into the limelight of the Studio Stage, covering pretty much everything that British, Irish and American theatre and poetry have to offer: Ayckbourne, Stoppard, Hampton, Ravenhill, Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle, Bram Stoker, Thorton Wilder, Monty Python, Saturday Night Live, a musical version of Frank L. Baum’s “Wizard of Oz” jazzed up with the Marx Brothers, W.C. Fields and more, featuring original texts and music, the world premiere of a previously unpublished play by Aldous Huxley, and of course the occasional Shakespeare. Over this long period, the group has naturally been composed of ever-changing anglophiles and theatre enthusiasts, though there is an insatiable handful who have been involved for 10, 15, or even over 20 years. But it’s not just English studies students who find their way onto the English stage: doctors, economists, Irish housewives, chemists and television actors have also swept the loyal EDG audience into storms of enthusiasm (hear, hear!). And yes, Volker Pispers also took his first steps on stage with us. The EDG is open to anyone who has an interest in (English-language) theatre, whether it’s trying out the comfort of the director’s chair, getting a tan in the spotlight, or letting their talents shine in set construction, lighting and all things theatre. The EDG has been around for more than thirty years and has become one of the most reliable institutions on and about campus. We usually put on about two shows per year, almost anything from Shakespeare to Stoppard, musicals, sketch-shows and whodunnits, British and American. We welcome anyone who wants to hit the stage or try their hand at directing, as well as make-up artists, designers and technicians. One thing, however, is prerequisite: a good command of English. And, uhm, we have no space for divas…

Driven by energetic guitars, groovy basslines and dynamic drums, a tapestry of sound emerges that creates the ideal framework for their stories. In their songs, they tell of experiences that touch, captivate and provoke thought – with lyrics about quiet and loud thoughts, big feelings and the spaces in between. Anyone who experiences the band live immediately feels a special dynamic that effortlessly shifts between intimate moments and high-energy rock passages. A show that is energetic, honest and moving. A sound that comes straight from the heart.

Description: Writing songs and singing them on stages is Pauli’s favourite activity. Turning feelings outward that are almost impossible to describe without music. Songwriting has been her creative expression and refuge for over a decade. Songs are created in her own room that personally and honestly tell what she has experienced and feels. Sometimes Pauli also creates characters that are fictional yet closely connected to her own stories. Together with her band – Max on guitar and Farina on bass – songs written on piano and guitar are brought to life sonically. Pauli also accompanies herself on the piano. Her already released song “Numbers” fits right into your chill pop playlist.

Ruki is a singer and also studies Philosophy and Education at the University of Münster. Mirko loves everything involving movement and music. Description: For 50 years now, the Studierendenorchester Münster (SOM) has shaped the cultural life of the university and the city of Münster. What began as a student initiative has developed over five decades into an integral part of Münster’s cultural landscape: from great symphonic works and solo concertos to contemporary compositions and projects at the intersections of music, theatre, dance and film. Around 90 musicians – predominantly students of the University of Münster, complemented by members of the Academy of Music and working professionals – develop an ambitious programme each semester, traditionally presented in two end-of-semester concerts. The anniversary year 2026 marks a special highlight in the orchestra’s history. The anniversary concerts for the 50th anniversary will take place on 17 and 18 July at the Messe- und Congresscentrum Halle Münsterland and mark both a look back at the orchestra’s long tradition and a glimpse into its artistic future. Under the motto “Musik mit Plus” (“Music with a Plus”), the SOM’s final concerts are regularly enriched by a creative contribution from other cultural disciplines. The orchestra often relies on project-based collaboration with student artists. In the past, the musical programme has already been complemented by drama, film, dance and visual art – these inspiring encounters enrich both the collective music-making and the concerts alike. That the SOM does not shy away from unusual artistic challenges was most recently demonstrated by a special project last November as part of the closing event of the Year of Quantum Science: with the performance of the contemporary work Fundamental Interactions, at the intersection of music and science, the orchestra took on a large-scale, experimental concert format and impressively underlined its openness to new ideas. Beyond the end-of-semester concerts, the orchestra regularly performs both nationally and internationally, most recently in 2023 at the Theater Münster as part of the Neue Wände Festival for University Culture and at the Romberg Festival at Schloss Harkotten. Travels – beyond cycling distance – have already taken the orchestra to numerous European countries, as well as Venezuela and Japan. Most recently, the SOM participated in the Festival international de musique universitaire (FIMU) in Belfort, France in 2023. The orchestra’s concert programme was also complemented for many years by concerts for children and families, which provided accessible entry points to orchestral music and were a firm part of the SOM’s diverse activities. With its 50th anniversary, the Studierendenorchester Münster looks back on an eventful history and at the same time sets a clear signal for the vibrant present and future of student music-making.
Description: Creating a space that is vulnerable, honest and brave. Taily stands with the content of their music for feeling these sensations and creating room for community and the power of togetherness. How can we build a community while the world around us keeps getting faster, louder and more violent? What does human togetherness feel like nowadays? Can we be brave even when we are frustrated and afraid? All these questions and emotional states are reflected in Taily’s English pop, expanded with experimental sounds. A range of content and style that welcomes all people.

Description: Trio Fatale is a young, passionate and experimental ensemble with the extraordinary instrumentation of piano, soprano and trumpet. Trio Fatale sees itself not merely as a trio, but as an ensemble of equals in which every voice plays a supporting role. The programmes arise from the desire to explore the special instrumentation sonically, thus creating diverse musical experiences and new listening perspectives.
